As a Friend of Pocahontas State Park

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Make a positive impact on the Park and local community
  • Assist with ongoing projects, trail monitoring and park upkeep
  • Provide support for concerts, special events and programs
  • Assist with environmental programs
  • Meet new people, ranging from park staff and people in your community to visitors from other countries
  • Help raise funds and donations for materials in support of maintenance and special projects at the Park
  • Gain the satisfaction of knowing your efforts helped improve and maintain Pocahontas State
  • Park for the enjoyment of today’s visitors and future generations

Membership

Members of the organization belong to the general public, and other organizations associated with park activities. Cooperative and reciprocal volunteer projects with other organizations are encouraged. Members receive free admittance to the park on the day of service. Members of the FoPSP support the park by assisting staff, performing improvement projects, and coordinating with other organizations associated with the park.

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteer benefits are awarded by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The training you’ll receive for your duties as a state park volunteer is an excellent way to gain work experience and improve job skills. Volunteer hours also count as job experience when applying for employment with Virginia State Parks or for any Virginia state government position.

  • Benefits are rewarded as the particular level of service is reached.
  • Hours are recorded on a calendar basis beginning/ending on the day that you register as a volunteer.
  • Members register and log in hours at the Virginia State Parks Volunteer Website.

Benefits per hours or service

Benefits per hours of service:

  • 25 hours: Park Manager’s Certificate, Pass Park of Service
  • 300 hours: One year pass to all state parks.
  • 500 hours: Lifetime pass to all state parks.
  • 600 hours: One week camping (off season).
  • 750 hours: One week camping (off season).
  • 900 hours: One week camping (off season).
  • 1000 hours: Name on park’s 1000 hour plaque and one week camping (off season), lifetime boat launch pass or lifetime horse trailer pass.
  • Every 200 hours after 1000: One week camping.
  • Every 400 hours after 1000: One week cabin (off season)
