Project Descriptions
Cemetery Restoration: Help preserve a 19th century cemetery in the park by removing brush and building fences. Learn some park history in the process. The park is home to many family burial plots from the time when this land was private homesteads and farms. Learn how to identify the old graves – you’d be surprised at how close some of them are to trails you travel on!
Firewood Splitting: Our primary fund-raising is done selling wood. You know we’re in good shape with our laid in stock this year vs. last, but you would be amazed at how much wood the campers use. And since they pay us for it, we love to make sure they have plenty on hand!
Trail Maintenance: If you are a mountain biker you know the Friends have created some of the greatest single track in Virginia. The sustainable trail practices we follow mean that the trails need consistent ‘care and feeding’. Help maintain our trails and enjoy the thrill of riding a berm that you built!
Painting: The Park office could use a little curb appeal! In the absence of HGTV, it’s up to us to help out. We’ll be putting a coat of fresh paint on the building and doing other light maintenance work.
