Volunteer Benefits

Volunteer benefits are awarded by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The training you’ll receive for your duties as a state park volunteer is an excellent way to gain work experience and improve job skills. Volunteer hours also count as job experience when applying for employment with Virginia State Parks or for any Virginia state government position.

Benefits are rewarded as the particular level of service is reached.
Hours are recorded on a calendar basis beginning/ending on the day that you register as a volunteer.
Members must register and log in hours at the Virginia State Parks Volunteer Website to receive volunteer rewards.

Benefits per Hour of Service

25 hours - Park Manager’s Certificate, 1 year Parking Pass
50 hours - DCR Polo Shirt
100 hours - 1 year pass to all VA state parks
150 hours - 1 week Camping
300 hours - 1 week Camping
500 hours - 1 week Cabin stay
750 hours - Lifetime pass to all VA state parks
1000 hours - Name on Park's 1000 hour Plaque, 1 week Cabin stay
Every 400 hours after 1000: 2 weeks camping or 1 week Cabin stay
2000 hours - Certificate from Secretary of Natural Resources
3000 hours - Bench or Tree planted in Recognition ceremony

Note: Volunteer rewards are provided by the Virginia DCR, not by FOPSP. To qualify for an award, all volunteer hours must be logged with the Virginia DCR's volunteer database. Reward requests will be forwarded to DCR for confirmation and processing. Volunteer hours which have not been recorded cannot be counted toward an award.
