the membership section doesn't make it clear how to actually join your group - do you just show up? Is there a cost to join? Are there regular general membership meetings? Thanks

Mat,
Thanks for the comments. You're right...we will be expanding on the info regarding membership. Here's a bit more info:
To join FoPSP, please register with DCR as a volunteer and list Friends of Pocahontas as your interest.

Next, join our email list to receive notices of volunteer opportunities.

Then, simply attend our monthly meeting to show your support and participate in volunteer activities as you are able.
Your volunteer hours can be logged and will earn great membership rewards such as a free parking pass to Pocahontas, free camping, and more!

Mat,

We've just updated the site with new membership info. Hopefully it addresses some of your concerns but please let us know if it doesn't.

You can add a widget from our Virginia Outdoors site that you can plug into your website that will include all of our posts about Pocahontas. The tool is pretty easy to use. Check it out here: http://www.virginiaoutdoors.com/content/tagwidget. Also I tweeted you suggesting you add an avatar to your Twitter account. Most Twitter folks won't follow or click on a link from an account that just has the egg avatar. Let me know if I can help in any way. I will retweet your tweets when I see them. If you add @vastateparks to them, I will be sure to see them.

Nancy - thanks for the widget. We've added it to our partner's section.

Very cool!

It appears that there is an indication the trails are closed until 1-5-14 in the examples of the the different type of trail condition indicators instead of where you would it expect it under the main page.

Jack,

Thanks - yes, that's just a demo so that folks can see how it would look if it were actually closed. All trails are open (if chilly)!

Cheers,

Phil

Any idea why I am getting 404 errors when trying to subscribe to the mailing list? I can't find any admin contact info, so I hope posting here is ok.

Are 13 year olds eligible to volunteer? we live nearby and this would be great way for my children to fulfill community service hours.

Sarah,

13 year olds are welcome to volunteer for everything except concerts. In fact, we have a trail work day this Saturday which would be ideal. We run all of our volunteer events through meetup.com. Here's the link for Saturday.

If you sign up for meetup, you'll get updates on all of our events.

See you in the park!

hello, i work for Capital One and currently run the volunteer board for the Chester site. We worked w/ the park a few years ago for a volunteer event painting some of the cabins. I was wondering for the month of October if there were any volunteer activities available we could assist with. I would need it during the week (Tues-Thurs preferably) for roughly 4 hours one day and around 25 volunteers. Please let me know if this is the correct route to request this or if i should speak w/ someone from the park directly. Thanks!

I just downloaded and read the new Self-Guided Night Mountain Biker Permit. I've ridden at the park for years, but am not sure what trails are defined as the "Swift Creek Trail System". Can you provide a list of these trails and/or a link to a map that would clarify this?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,
The Swift Creek Trail System is defined as the newest trail system including the Gateway trails, Bell Lap, and Blueberry Hill trail. These trails are accessed quickly from the Loop Forest parking area off Courthouse Rd.
thanks!

Trying to get a better version of your map - the one on the top of this page: http://www.fopsp.org/trail-maps.html

But I get the following when I follow the scribe link...
