The park will be completely closed to all activities (except hunting) from December 2nd to December 4th and from December 12th to December 14th, 2013. This closure affects all areas of the park. Please avoid visiting the park. With the large number of deer in the park these days, and a lack of natural predators, these hunts help keep deer populations in check and protect the forest from over browsing which can cause long term damage to the forest ecosystem. They also protect the deer from potentially devastating disease which can strike overly dense herds. The park south of Beach Road will be closed from Monday, November 4th until Saturday, November 9th for one of the park's annual managed deer hunts. The closed area is marked in red on the map. All of the park North of beach road, including the campgrounds, all of the singletrack trails and most of the park's hiking trails, will be open and, given the cool temperatures and beautiful fall colors, a great place to enjoy a bit of fall. |
